 Por: Anulfo Vargas VásquezMARTES 22 de abril de 2009 NEW YORK:-Quedó inaugurado el sábado último aquí el XVI torneo de softbol “George Arzeno Brugal Inmemorian”, actividad en la que participan cuatro equipos integrados por puertoplateños y amigos, cuya actividad recreativa es organizada anualmente por la Liga de Softbol Puerto Plata en New York. Nuevamente los terrenos del Parque Van Courtland en el Condado del Bronx fueron testigos de la hermandad, la amistad, compañerismo y de gratos recuerdos de la gran cantidad de puertoplateños que se congregaron en la ocasión para disfrutar de esta inauguración. En la ocasión fueron reconocidos varios atletas, personalidades, dirigentes y fundadores de la Liga de Softbol Puerto Plata, los cuales se han dedicado en cuerpo y alma a mantener el espíritu deportivo y el fomento de esta disciplina que integra a muchos de ellos en el deporte de la bola floja. El evento se inició con la alineación de los equipos azules, rojos, amarillos y verdes. Luego se procedió a la entonación de los Himnos Nacionales de los Estados y la República Dominicana. Las palabras de bienvenida y presentación de los invitados estuvieron a cargo de Arturo Burgos, uno de los fundadores de la Liga de Softbol Puerto Plata, el cual junto al locutor Rubén A. Landrau, hizo las veces de maestro de ceremonia. Mientras que Juan (Pappy) Wells, dio las palabras de agradecimiento en representación del Comité ejecutivo de dicha Liga. La representación de la Empresa Brugal & Cía., en este acto estuvo a cargo del licenciado Fausto Sánchez, para ratificar el apoyo que la firma licorista siempre ha dado a las actividades deportivas de los nativos de la Novia Atlántico residentes en New York. Autoridades representativas del Estado de Nueva York, entre ellas, Nelson Castor, Asambleísta, del Distrito 86 del Condado del Bronx, y el Concejal Miguel Martínez, Concejal del Distrito 10 del Condado Manhattan, estuvieron presentes una vez más en la apertura de un evento de softbol organizado por la Liga Puerto Plata. El lanzamiento de la primera bola estuvo a cargo del Asambleísta Castor, recibido por el Concejal Martínez y bateado por el presidente de la filial aquí de la Asociación de Softball en New York, Augusto Payano. De arbitro de honor estuvo el periodista dominicano José Del Tejo. El lucido y colorido programa incluyo el juramento deportivo a cargo del atleta Carlos Burgos, seguido de intercambios de flores entre las madrinas de los equipos participantes. Los deportistas reconocidos fueron: Sergio Bonilla, Eddy (Botellita) Jiménez, Tito Román, y Jorge Peña, los cuales recibieron placas de reconocimiento por parte de la directiva de la Liga de Softbol Puerto Plata por su dedicación a los deportes en la Republica Dominicana. Previo a los juegos de apertura se procedió a aplaudir por varios minutos la memoria del empresa Arzeno Brugal, al cual se le dedica este año la justa softbolìstica y quien fue un pilar en que descansó dicha liga para recibir todo el apoyo de la Empresa Brugal & Cía., para el montaje de sus eventos. Este torneo se desarrollará los sábados de cada semana en el Parque Van Courtland. Los juegos comenzarán a partir de las 3:00 de la tarde, lo que augura que nuevamente se darán cita centenares de espectadores puertoplateños para disfrutar de las actividades que brinda la Liga de Softbal Puerto Plata.
