 Por: Aridio Perdomoy Humberto francisco Viernes 27 de Febrero de 2009 ALTAMIRA:-La principal vía de llegada a este municipio está sometida a un proceso de deterioro producto de las lluvias que se registraron en la provincia recientemente. La entrada por la zona Oeste cuando se retorna desde el Cibao (Santiago) hacia esta comunidad se hundió y se llevó consigo un gigante letrero en el que se plasmó el siguiente mensaje: “Bienvenidos a la comunidad de Altamira”. Igualmente, en los alrededores del sector La Piedra existe otro derrumbe debido a que hubo en la ocasión deslizamiento de tierra a causa de las lluvias que a principio de febrero se precipitaron en la costa Norte especialmente en la provincia de Puerto Plata. El síndico de este municipio Humberto Colón, manifestó que está preocupado por esta situación y pidió a los habitantes de Altamira tener paciencia porque estas fallas serán corregidas a su debido tiempo. Las riadas provocadas por los aguaceros provocaron graves daños en los sectores ganadero, avícola, agrícola, educativo, comercial y empresarial, lo que dejó perdidas millonarias que pasaran varios años para que puedan ser superadas. El ayuntamiento local había hecho una buena inversión económica para hermosear la entrada y salida de Altamira, pero esos esfuerzos se fueron al suelo cuando las lluvias arrasaron con los letreros que identificaban la llegada del visitante a este bello poblado de la provincia de Puerto Plata.
