IMBERT - LUPERON.- La nueva enfermedad que afectas a los cítricos, exterminaría las plantaciones en menos de cinco años en la República Dominicana, la enfermedad que ya está en la parte norte de país específicamente en Imbert y Luperon, la enfermedad dejaría perdidas por más 1, 400 millones de pesos y llevar a la calle a más 30 mil empleos directos. La aparición de la nueva enfermedad, conocida como “Greening (HLB), producida por un insecto conocido como “Esperanza o Langosta”, devastaría unas 150 mil tareas y desaparecerían más de 500 pequeños, medianos y grandes productores. Una vez infectada la planta, no existe cura para una planta infectada por el HLB. Se trata de una enfermedad cuarentenaria A2 por su gran capacidad de provocar grandes pérdidas económicas y biológicas. Los árboles de cítricos infectados declinan y mueren de 2 a 5 años después de la infección. Al día de hoy, la fatal enfermedad de los cítricos ha causado la muerte a más de 99 millones de plantas cítricas en el mundo, según el explica el documento del Comité Técnico para Manejo Integrado del Greening HLB. Existen tres forma de la bacteria, la Asiática, Africana and América, pero la raza encontrada en nuestra país parece ser la asiática, similar a la encontrada en La Florida Las bacterias son transmitidas principalmente por insectos vectores (psilidos), pero el psilido que transmite la raza de hunglongbing (Diaphorina citri Kuwayana), se encontró por primera vez en el país en el 2001, pero no se habían observado síntomas de la enfermedad hasta ahora, que ya está creando estrago en la zona de Puerto Plata.<PTPMEDIOS.COM>
